Ronnie James Dio's widow Wendy is organizing a fifth anniversary memorial at his gravesite in Los Angeles, and fans from around the world are invited.

"We're gonna do a big public memorial up at Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills," Wendy Dio tells Maximum Threshold, "and we'll have bands playing. It will be a celebration of Ronnie's life."

She said the weekend-long event, keyed to the anniversary date of May 16, 2015, will also include bowling- and motorcycle-related benefits. The memorial will be followed, in October 2015, with the fifth annual Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund awards gala. That event has raised more than $1 million for cancer research since Dio died from stomach cancer in 2010 -- including $200,000 for the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and $400,000 for the T.J. Martell Foundation, Wendy Dio said.

"Ronnie was a very charitable person," she added, "and we used to do a lot of things when Ronnie was alive. And I just have done more since he passed, because I wanted to make something of his passing -- something positive to come out of it -- and that's how I feel. I feel that life has been good to me, and it's always good to give back."

The first public memorial for Dio, held on May 30, 2010 at Forest Lawn, was attended by more than 1,500 fans, fellow musicians and friends. A new all-star tribute album, titled ‘Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life,’ also raised funds for Stand Up and Shout.
