Square Enix remains enthusiastic about trying to bring Dragon Quest's first MMORPG over for its debut in the west.

In Siliconera's interview with Dragon Quest executive producer Yuu Miyake and mobile producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto at PAX Prime, many questions were asked about the Dragon Quest series. In particular, we have learned that Miyake and Fujimoto were both joyed to speak about Dragon Quest X and the possibility of bringing it over to North America and Europe for a western release.

“We’d love to do it!” Miyake and Fujimoto both exclaimed when asked about porting Dragon Quest X. “Love to.”

Miyake was also realistic about how massive such a project would be:

In terms of this being an MMO, again, we have to consider the operation and logistics of how to make that feasible. We also have to think about it from a business standpoint. With Final Fantasy XI and XIV, it’s a global-scale endeavor. In terms of Dragon Quest, the way it’s perceived in the different countries is very, very different. How it’s perceived in Japan is different than how it’s perceived in the United States. In addition, we’d have to build a new data center for pretty much every location, and we need to make sure that makes sense as a business. We want to be able to operate in the different regions. Again, we would love to do it, but we’re still trying to work out the details and figure out what would work best [were we to bring it abroad].

While it may be too late to see Dragon Quest X launch on the Nintendo Wii, we're still hoping for the day we can play it on the Wii U. Even if X never hits North American or European shores, at least we still have the other Dragon Quest titles being ported over to mobile devices.
