BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say an Idaho City High School student has been taken into custody after bringing a loaded gun to campus.

KTVB-TV reports Basin School District Superintendent John McFarlane says two students reporting hearing a rumor that a student may have brought a gun to school Tuesday. The school resource officer was notified along with Idaho City police and state troopers, who had already been on campus. McFarlane says the student was questioned, searched and then taken into custody.

Boise County Sheriff Ben Roeber confirmed the student had a handgun and that the weapon hadn't been discharged. The student is being held in a juvenile detention center and could face several charges.
