Suspect in Triple Shooting Waives Extradition from Idaho

BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — The suspect in a Montana triple shooting that left one man dead has waived extradition from Idaho.

Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney Danny Clark tells The Montana Standard  that 48-year-old Tony Dwade Sawyer waived extradition Thursday during his initial court appearance before Magistrate Judge Jason Walker. Sawyer was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was being held on $1 million bail.

A warrant charges him with deliberate homicide for the death of 37-year-old Joe Powers of Whitehall. He also is charged with two counts of attempted deliberate homicide after two other men were shot and injured along a road southwest of Whitehall. Investigators say they don't know the motive for the shooting. Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester says his department is arranging for Sawyer to be returned to Butte to face charges.
