It’s been quite A Day, and we’ll forgive you for being distracted by the latest political news (aka What Did Anthony Weiner Do This Time?!) — as such, we also regret to inform you that the director of the recent action thriller Criminal is helming a new reboot of Rambo that will not feature Sylvester Stallone, which, if our science is correct, does not sound like a Rambo movie at all.

The announcement that a proposed Rambo legacyquel had landed at FOX brought uncertainty that Sylvester Stallone himself would reprise the role, despite being attached as executive producer. Now, it seems the former John Rambo won’t have any involvement with the series whatsoever, which could well draw final blood from New Blood.

Sylvester Stallone became a star playing Rocky Balboa, but did you know that United Artists wanted to buy Stallone’s script for Rocky and cast another actor in the title role? Before they finally agreed to let Stallone have the part, they tried to cast actors like Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, and James Caan. The success of FOX’s 24: Live Another Day event series got the ball rolling on a number of other ideas, from The X-Files to Enourmous, but their latest short-burn effort is even more expendable. Sylvester Stallone is reportedly developing a limited series TV rendition of The Expendables, uniting some of TV’s biggest stars for a new action-drama.

“Nothing is over!” These are the words of Col. John J Rambo, the hero of ‘First Blood’ (better known as ‘Rambo’) and then ‘Rambo: First Blood Part II’ and then ‘Rambo III’ (the only one people call by its actual title and then ‘Rambo’ (better known as ‘Old Rambo’). After what basically amounts to a movie-long chase, ‘First Blood’ concludes with a heartfelt speech from star Sylvester Stallone, explaining how nothing (meaning the Vietnam War) is over for him; that his mind is too scarred from his brutal deeds and by the cruel treatment he’s received on the homefront. It’s a powerful (if occasionally incomprehensible) scene.

However, if your idea of a good trailer involves Harrison Ford laughing maniacally while firing missiles from his helicopter, you're probably in for a treat.

Sylvester Stallone has had two great franchise characters, Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, and was able to resurrect both over the last decade successfully. But though Balboa's gloves are hung up (even if Stallone recently paid homage to that character), it looks like we're going to get a 'Rambo 5' that promises to be one of the most thoughtful of the series' sequels.

We've got the likes of Stallone, Statham, Snipes, Schwarzenegger, that wise-cracking Harrison Ford, and a whole bunch of younger newbies ready to take down Mel Gibson. It's sure to be one heck of a ride.

There's no way the set of 'The Expendables 3' wasn't a fascinating place to be. After all, you don't put personalities as varied and eclectic as Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford in one place without generating at least a few stories worth sharing.
