It is easy to forget that we live in earthquake country. Yes, Idaho has on occasion gotten a pretty good shaking in the past. Last night, there was another small quake although I'm doubting you felt this one.

The USGS is reporting that a 2.6 centered around 41 miles west of Challis hit around 11 pm Wednesday night. Even if you were hiking in the Sawtooths, you probably wouldn't have even known the ground underneath you was having a moment.

This is a good reminder that serious quakes can and do happen here. If you were in the Magic Valley back in 1984 when the northern Utah quake happened, you know what I'm talking about. Then, there was the huge Borah Peak quake of 1983.

I tend to be an earthquake junkie and follow these things pretty close. A quick look at the USGS current earthquake map normally will tell you all you want to know.
