According to the Catholic Church, this kind of stress relief is normal.  Well if your name is Father Tom Donovan, who called 911 because he was locked up in handcuffs and had a ball gag shoved in his mouth back in 2012.  All of which he did to himself.

The clinical therapist also confirms that the strict absence of illicit sexual behaviors, relationships, and patterns reveal that this self-bondage is to be understood as non-sexual in nature.

In short, he was stressed out so he handcuffed himself and shoved a ball gag in his mouth.  OK.
