I should really rename this “The Top 5 Dating Venues In The Magic Valley - Kendra Wolfe Style.”  The other title was shorter though.  Any who, the intern (Muffin Mary) is now dating someone and word is he’s a “nice boy,” as my mom says.  So she was asking for some dating venue tips and now you will all benefit.  Get your top 5 after the jump baby!

Like I said this is Kendra Wolfe style, so my lazy ass is just going to recount the top 5 dates me and the fiance went on when we first started dating.

Jakers Bar & Grill

#5 – Jakers Bar & Grill: Located on Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls

If you’re wondering why this made the list?  Mostly, the BIG BEERS!  So it was our first date…OK it wasn’t actually a date, but I knew I liked him and I could tell he like me too.  So I was nervous and our server must have known, so she asked me: “Would you like the small or BIG beer.”  Maybe it was just the way she said it, or maybe it was the glint in her eye, but I went with the BIG BEER and so did the now fiance.  Honestly, I knew we were meant for each other then.

The Food: Jakers Bar & Grill also has some great food!  Delicious salads and some kick ass sandwiches, plus their fish taco’s rock and I really do love the BIG BEERS!  So the fiance got the Drunkin’ Noodles, again I knew it was meant to be.  Here’s what’s in it:

Drunken Noodles - Seared chicken breast, bell peppers, onions, fresh

Basil and tomatoes tossed with egg noodles in a spicy Thai Chile sauce.  $13.99

As for me I got the Turkey and Swiss.  I know, I know, way to eat healthy in front of a dude.  It was, but it was really good and it’s still my favorite!  Here’s what’s in it:

Turkey and Swiss - Fresh roasted turkey, mayo, lettuce and tomato topped with melted Swiss cheese and served on toasted ciabatta.  Plus I got a salad - Delicious!  $9.99

After dinner, the not-yet-fiance insisted on paying.  After fighting for a bit, I gave in.  What a nice boy, as my mother would say!  LOL

In Short: Jakers Bar & Grill is a great place for a first date, date-date, date-free-of-kids, or even a double date.  It’s laid back and DARK enough to set a relaxing mood, yet still classy enough to set a good mood and great impression.  The food is decently priced, it tastes good, (and they do buffets all the time!), and last but not least, the BIG BEERS!  They’re bar is a bar – they have a full liquor bar and a good selection of beers (This is important to both myself and the fiance.)

#4 Bowl-A-Drome – Located on 220 Eastland Drive in Twin Falls

Our next date was at the Bowl-A-Drome.  Honestly, who knew the age old sport of bowling could create so many sparks…and I’m not talking about the ones from my gutter balls.  Actually, I’m not that bad of a bowler.  Bowling was laid back enough for a second date, plus it gave us something to do, so we didn’t have to keep talking to each other.  Plus the Bowl-A-Drome’s full liquor bar allowed me to buy him some beer since he paid for my dinner.  I’m weird like that…or just a normal female: I keep score!  There was a little bit of competition and cheering, plus the beer made the prefect concoction for a second date.

The Food: Honestly, the food is not exactly hot date cuisine, its more hot dogs, popcorn, and snack bar type food.  But the bar!  It’s stocked full!  It’s a full liquor bar with great pitcher prices and drink specials.  Especially if you get there early!

In Short: The Bowl-A-Drome is a great place to just be a kid again.  There’s nothing like drinking straight out of a pitcher of beer in celebration of a gutter ball.  OR If you have to bring the kids, cut back on the sauce and have fun with the entire family.  As for the food, I like to eat before I get there…then if I’m still hungry, lets face it the food at the Bowl-A-Drome is perfect beer food.

That night I kissed him good night.  Well actually, my drunken ass had to get driven home by him.  Once we got to my place, I grabbed his head with both hands and kissed him good night, then said “see you tomorrow.”  How else was I supposed to get my car back?

Japanese Steakhouse

#3 Sakura Steakhouse – Located at 562 Blue Lakes Boulevard in Twin Falls

If you haven’t noticed, I’m cheesy like that and the more dates we go on the better they get!  Anyways, our third date was the Sakura Steakhouse.  This place was perfect because this was the first time we went out to dinner just the two of us and we were both nervous.

Here’s what happens when I get nervous: I talk non-stop until I’m out of breath, but I still don’t stop.

When he’s nervous: Nothing!  He says nothing!  I mean the guy is already quite and calm, but I’d ask him things and he’d say “Yup” or “Nope.”  That was the extent of our communication at first.  And this made me even more nervous.

Sakura Steakhouse provided the entertainment so it really made the date goes smoother.

The Food: It rocks!  They cook it in front of you, plus the cheesy jokes help to cut the tension too.  It starts like any restaurant, you pick what you want to eat and drink and then boom your cook comes out, tells you some horrible jokes and then there’s FIRE!  Calling all pyromaniacs, this would be the job for you.  Not only is there fire, but there’s some sweet knife skillz too.  Yes, that’s a “Z.”

So the chef will start by expertly slicing an onion and then make it into a volcano, which he fills with some sort of oil and BOOM - Flames!  Next he’ll spin an egg, stop it and say “Japanese Egg Roll.”  I told you there were horrible jokes.  He will continue with more flames and expert knife skillz till your dinner is ready.  And when I say dinner, I mean a LOT OF FOOD!  You will have leftovers.

The Leftover Test: This place is perfect for the leftover test.  What you’ve never heard of it?  OK so when you just start dating someone, if you both can pass the leftover test (as in you take home leftovers) it can mean one of two things.

  • 1 – It means you really don’t care about this relationship, you just want some free food.
  • 2 – You really like the person and are starting to relax enough to take home some food.

For me it was the second one.  We both took home a box and we both had a great time and were plenty full.

In Short: They’ve got great food and drinks (plus there’s sake) and they’ll entertain you while you eat.  This is a fun place to go if you want a change or if you’d like to cut the tension on a first date.  Another cool thing to know is this place has cruise ship seating.  I just made up the term, but they will sit you at a table with other people you don’t know.  Don’t be scurd of this, it’s a really fun way to meet people you may not have otherwise had the opportunity to meet.

NazzKart

#2 NazzKart – Located on 302 3rd Street South in Twin Falls

If you haven’t noticed, I like to have fun on dates, even if they’re laid back and NazzKart has it all in one place, plus they serve beer!

The Games: Yes, you can play games here, games for adults!  Amazing!

  • Take A Spin On 45 MPH Race Cars
  • Play Some Mini-Golf
  • Batting Cages
  • Play Pool
  • Dominate The Ping Pong Table
  • Show Off How Out Of Shape I Am On The 42' Rock Wall
  • Be A Kid Again On The Bounce House
  • Play Some Xbox 360
  • Drink Beer!

The Food: Again, this place has some concession-type food, but it’s still good.  Enjoy items like hamburgers and hotdogs, nachos, and popcorn.  All of which go great with a big pitcher of beer.  And they’re beer selection is pretty good:  Blue Moon…YUM!  Plus when served with an orange it becomes healthy…right?

In Short: NazzKart is a great place to just have fun!  You can start with Mini-Golf, and end with Pool or any other activity they have there.  Here’s a great tip.  Get there early, especially if it’s during college football season.  We got a great pool table location: It was close to the bar and had a great view of the big-ass-screen TV.  So we played pool, drank beer, and watched college football.  We both knew we were meant for each other after that date.

Nachos
loading...

#1 El Sombrero - Located 143 West Main Street in Jerome

Yes, my number one dating venue in the Magic Valley is just a little, inexpensive, quaint Mexican restaurant.  And ya know what’s even stranger; I’ve only had one thing from their menu…every time!

The Food: Well, when I eat there, me and the fiance share a HUGE plate of Nachos.  I know I know, how romantic.  Honestly, it is.  We are saving money and sharing!  Maybe you could feed each other some nachos.  Writing this is making me hungry.  Here’s what we get every time:

NACHOS SUPREME - Tortilla chips with beans, melted cheese, black olives, jalapeno Chile’s, tomatoes, onions, shredded beef, guacamole dip and sour cream.  $9.50

If sharing a plate of nachos is not your thing, no worries, they have a huge variety of choices from burritos to tacos to combo plates.  And yes, there’s beer!  Plus, every table gets free chips and salsa.  And dude this salsa rocks!  Honestly, I need to ask them for some take-home salsa.  As for leftovers - They’re never has been any…it’s that good!  The ingredients are fresh, I mean you have to try to guacamole…It’s not that gross dark green color, it’s smooth and so fresh.  It looks and tastes like it’s made to order.  YUM!

The location is also great.  It’s close to the Jerome movie theater and close to a lot of the downtown bars in Jerome.  Perfect for before or after a movie or drinks.
