Twin Falls Deputy Bit by Sheriff Canine in Scuffle

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A Twin Falls County sheriff's deputy has been temporarily assigned light duty after being bitten by a police dog attempting to subdue a suspect.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lori Stewart tells The Times-News that Deputy Shelli Stokesberry was transported to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center following the bite on Monday. Authorities say Stokesberry and other officers plus a K-9 named Drago were trying to subdue 35-year-old Nathan Kellogg in a violent confrontation on the Kimberly man's porch.

Police say Drago went for Kellogg's leg but Stokesberry stepped in the way and was bitten by the 2-year-old Belgian Malinois. Kellogg was arrested and faces battery and assault charges. In December, Drago went missing for three days after the patrol vehicle in which he was riding rolled in a crash.
