TWIN FALLS, Id. ( KMVT/ KSVT ) A recent burglary has law enforcement officials calling for your help to take action. Around 7:30 Christmas Eve morning, the Canyon Pawn shop was broken into.

The Twin Falls Police Department responded and say the owners were contacted and confirmed that two firearms were stolen from the shop. Police say while gun thefts have been an extremely concerning problem for awhile, our area alone has seen 49 thefts in just the last year. These thefts are worrisome for the reason that we have no idea whose hands these firearms fall into. Because of this concern, police are asking for your help.

Chuck Garner is a Staff Sergeant with the Twin Falls Police Department. He said, "We would like to urge everyone to document their serial numbers, make, model, caliber of their weapons. If you don't want to write it down because you're afraid you're going to lose it we find a lot of people actually take photos with their phones and keep pictures of the serial numbers and their guns on their phones."

Garner says by documenting your firearm, you help not only them but officers all over the country track that firearm if it ever goes missing. He also says in these types of crimes, it's crucial that if you see something, you say something. Someone caught with a stolen gun risks felony charges which could lead to what Garner called ‘serious’ prison time, and even federal charges.
