TWIN FALLS, Id. ( KMVT-TV / KSVT ) Twin Falls Sheriff deputies report they were in a short chase that ended in the arrest of a man wanted by the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office after he failed to appear for a court hearing.

At about 11:30 Tuesday night, deputies say they attempted to stop the driver of a 1984 Chevrolet pickup on Kimberly Road. The driver sped up and turned onto Madrona Street. He exited the vehicle while it was still moving and ran. His truck continued forward and hit a parked truck. It turns out the driver was James A. McLaws who was located following a search of the area. He was hiding in an industrial area behind a wooden board.

McLaws 33, of Heyburn, was charged with DUI, eluding, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, failure to carry proof of insurance and a seat-belt violation.

He is also being held by the sheriff’s office on a Cassia County agent’s warrant. He failed to appear at a court hearing Tuesday morning for a drug charge.

McLaws reportedly knew Tiffani Streling who disappeared May 16, 2015. She is the subject of a continued search by area law enforcement.

Sheriff Heward with Cassia County has said that doesn’t make McLaws a suspect in her disappearance.
