TWIN FALLS, Id. ( KMVT / KSVT ) Twin Falls police say they are investigating a concern that happened on Tuesday. Authorities say two individuals were believed to be attempting to abduct children at the mall.

On Tuesday, detectives with the Twin Falls Police Department investigated an incident that originated at the mall and spread quickly on social media. After speaking with witnesses and individuals who were involved in the incident, and after reviewing surveillance video, it was determined that there was no threat to the public.

Upon investigation, detectives learned that two juveniles were left unattended by parents at the mall. The two juveniles approached several visitors at the mall in a disruptive manner. Their behavior attracted the attention of concerned citizens, who followed the juveniles in an attempt to locate their parents.

It was believe by some individuals involved in the incident that the two juveniles and the concerned citizens were attempting to abduct young children at the mall. Although no foul play was intended in this incident, the Twin Falls Police Department would like to remind the public of the following:

  • During the holiday season, the Twin Falls Police Department increases its presence at high-capacity areas such as shopping malls, public events, and other areas where individuals may attempt to prey on the public
  • Parents are encouraged to closely monitor young children at all times, even in enclosed areas such as indoor malls and department stores
  • Parents should remind children to avoid talking to strangers, and to contact police or area security if they feel they are in danger
  • If possible, contact mall or store security to report unattended children who may appear lost or are unruly. Even good intentions can be perceived by others as a threat
