Two Die in North Idaho After Falling Through Lake Ice
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Lewis County sheriff's office says two men have died after falling through ice while fishing at Winchester Lake in north-central Idaho.
The Lewiston Tribune reports the sheriff's office said Friday night that 79-year-old David Kries and 73-year-old Roger Ward died from hypothermia. Both men were from Kamiah. The sheriff's office was told late Friday morning that someone had fallen through the lake ice.
Emergency units and a Life Flight helicopter were sent to the scene. A second person was found in the water as the initial rescue was in progress and a second helicopter was requested. Both men were flown to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where they died.The lake is about 35 miles south of Lewiston.
