CODY, Wyo. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park officials are warning people against approaching wildlife in the park after a woman was caught on video petting a buffalo.
The Cody Enterprise reports that park spokesman Amy Bartlett says the woman "was extremely lucky" she wasn't hurt in the Friday incident. The woman's encounter with the bison comes after Yellowstone reported five run-ins between park-goers and buffalo last year. One incident involved a woman who was flipped into the air by a bison while trying to take a selfie with the animal.
Bartlett says park officials hope the woman caught petting the bison last week in the Geyser Basin area will realize how fortunate she was not to be harmed by the animal. Park visitors are required to stay at least 25 yards from bison.
