When Christmas rolls around each year we all get excited to listen to Christmas music and sing along to our favorite carols. I find it really interesting that we do get so excited for these songs since there really aren't that many of them. Sure, there are many versions of each classic Christmas song, but essentially we are just listening to the same 30 (roughly) songs all day long. That must be part of the magic of Christmas! Thank goodness that there are so many versions to listen to.

For some songs there are more versions than others. Time magazine did their research and found that Silent Night is the most recorded Christmas song of them all - with 733 copyrighted recordings! Below is a list of the top 7 most popular Christmas songs for artists to record.

  1. "Silent Night" - 733 recordings.
  2. "Joy to the World" - 391 recordings.
  3. "O Holy Night" - 374 recordings.
  4. "What Child Is This?" - 329 recordings.
  5. "Away in a Manger" - 300 recordings.
  6. "O Come All Ye Faithful" - 296 recordings.
  7. "White Christmas" - 283 recordings.
