BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Southwest Idaho authorities have identified the woman whose body was found in a canal and say she might not have died due to drowning after all.

Ada County Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg tells the Idaho Statesman that 40-year-old Alexis R. Palmer of Boise might have been dead before the canal filled up. Sonnenberg made the comments Monday after Palmer's family had been notified.

Her body was found Thursday by a canal company employee in Boise, and the coroner's office on Friday sent out a news release saying the death was likely an accidental drowning.

But Sonnenberg says there's no obvious trauma or indication of how Palmer died, so the cause is still pending. He says toxicology and other tests should be finished in about six weeks.
