KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Wildlife officials have euthanized a 300-pound male black bear in central Idaho west of Ketchum.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports in a story on Wednesday that a Fish and Game officer killed the bear late last month in the backyard of an unoccupied home. Conservation Officer Lee Garwood says people and dogs had walked near the bear but it offered little reaction.

Garwood says the bear had an infected wound on its head and had been in a fight with another bear. He says the bear was at least 10 years old and is likely the same bear that got into garbage cans and caused complaints in the last decade. Garwood says it's likely the same bear he trapped as a yearling but from then on it avoided traps.
