The latest Super Smash Bros. update on Miiverse shows a little more skin that most, revealing that Zero Suit Samus's alternate costume in the new games will be based on the ending of Metroid Zero Mission.

The Miiverse post from series head Masahiro Sakurai reads: "Pic of the day. Looking at the number of days we have left for development, it would be an impossible task to create this… That's what I told my staff. But thanks to the determination of her female designer, these Zero Suit outfits got completed in time. From the ending of Metroid: Zero Mission, here's Samus in shorts!"

A 3DS version of the costume was also shown, where Sakurai remarked: "Here's a look at the 3DS version. You can use the same outfit variations in both the 3DS and Wii U versions." This is the first confirmation of alternate costumes being present in both versions of the game, although no one really doubted their inclusion into the 3DS version.

This costume is a bit against the grain for not only Smash Bros but Nintendo in general, however some of us would argue that this alt is less risque than the skin-tight bodysuit she normally wears. This looks like she's about to hit the gym or go running along a California beach, while the bodysuit...well, doesn't.

Super Smash Bros for 3DS launches Oct. 3, while Super Smash Bros for Wii U launches this holiday season.
