2 Approaching Comets To Give Idahoans Chance At Rare Marvel
The next eight weeks are going to be very exciting for people in the Gem State who love astronomy. A unique opportunity to view two approaching comets just weeks apart will happen as 2024 draws to an end and 2025 kicks off.
Astronomy is a truly magical science. Our solar system is alive and constantly changing and producing spectacular energies. It's impossible to measure something that is limitless, and those of us on Earth will be visited soon by a pair of massive space rocks traveling roughly 30 miles per second.
Obviously, weather will be a factor and it's much too soon to predict what either week has in store.
Comets 333P/Linear and C2024 G3(ATLAS) are zipping through outer space presently and will be making close approaches to the Sun in the next 60 days or so. Comet 333P/Linear will likely be visible with the aid of binoculars or a telescope first on the evening of November 29, according to starwalk.space.
Comet C2024 G3(ATLAS) will arrive a few weeks later on January 13, 2025, and might be seen with the naked eye, according to starwalk.space. This comet was discovered this past April, making it a relatively unknown comet and one that will present a rare opportunity for skywatchers.
Obviously, weather will be a factor and it's much too soon to predict what either week has in store. Continue to follow updates on these comets online if you're interested in viewing them. Clean off that telescope lens and have those binoculars near by for your chance to view these remarkable, speeding masses.
