BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Federal officials hope to capture an estimated 31 wild horses in southwestern Idaho that eluded an emergency helicopter gather following a giant wildfire.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials say the horses need to be captured because there's not enough forage to sustain them.

Officials also say the horses need to be temporarily removed to help rehabilitation efforts in the 436-square-mile area that burned in August.

Officials ask that humans avoid temporary corrals where food and water will be set up with trigger closure gates.

Earlier this year officials captured 279 horses that are being cared for at the Boise Wild Horse Corrals or at the Palomino Valley National Adoption Center near Reno, Nevada.

Some of the horses near Boise will be available for adoption Nov. 6 and 7.
