5 Things to Do to Your Home in the Magic Valley Now That It’s Fall
This is just what you needed. More things to add to your to-do list. Now that it's Fall, there are some things you can do for your home to get it ready for the cold weather months ahead.
Some of these may or may not apply to you depending on what your home includes. But, many in the Magic Valley will identify with the following things that have to be conquered sooner or later.
1. Blow out your sprinklers
Thanks to the lack of rain, many homes in the Magic Valley have irrigation sprinklers. If your home has this, it's time to winterize soon. You can hire a pro (my personal preference since I tend to break things) or the Family Handyman website has some good tips on how to do it yourself.
2. Clean out your gutters
You would be surprised how much gunk can build up in your gutters. You might also be surprised how not good this is for getting water away from your home when rain eventually hits. Do it now or regret it later.
3. Have your house sprayed for spiders and pests
As the temps fall, the more you'll be dealing with spiders and other creepy crawlers that are trying to find a warm place inside. There are professional pest control companies in the Magic Valley that can do this for you or you can spray yourself.
4. Check windows and doors for leaks
If your windows and doors have leaks, you're gonna have a harder time keeping your home warm this winter. House Logic has some good tips on what to look for to tell if your windows and doors have issues.
5. Change furnace filters
Your heating system is about to get a several month workout. If you haven't changed the filter in awhile, now's the time to get it done. It's at the top of the Popular Mechanics list for home winterization for a reason.
