85-year-old Weiser Man May Have Drowned in Hells Canyon

WEISER, Idaho (KLIX)-East Oregon authorities say an Idaho fisherman may have drowned in Hells Canyon on Monday. According to the Baker County Sheriff's Office, Alberto Sillonis, of Weiser was reported overdue from a fishing trip on January 17. The 85-year-old man had gone to the Hells Canyon Visitor's Center, located at the very end of the road into the canyon below the Hells Canyon Dam. Sillonis was supposed to return home Monday evening.

Deputies with the Baker County Sheriff's Office and Washington County Sheriff's Office in Idaho searched the area and checked area hotels for the missing senior. Sillonis' pickup was found parked at the visitor's center. Searchers also found a pair of fishing poles on the docks below, one that still had a line in the water. The Baker County Sheriff's Office believes Sillonis fell off the dock and did not survive. Baker County Search and Rescue Teams with help from Idaho Power crews searched the area and only found a hat that the family confirmed belonged to Sillonis.
