Like they say, marriage is a lot of work. When these relationships hit rocky times and there are children involved, couples can either choose to throw in the towel or stay together despite unhappiness.
As a married man of more than 10 years with one child my wife and I share, I would do everything in my power to avoid separation, but not just for the sake of my son.
Like most couples, we argue from time to time, but I know our relationship is strong because if we were to not get involved in drama stirred by relatives outside our core family, we would practically never fight.
Nearly Half of Adults Are Staying Married Solely For Kids, Study Finds
Global Parenting Expert Jo Frost recently made the claim that nearly half (47%) of all married couples admit to staying together solely for the kids. Emotional disconnect is no longer causing married people to rescind on vows and seek immediate divorce, according to Frost's findings.

Some people might consider remaining in a marriage for the sake of their child's stability to be an unhealthy choice, both mentally and physically. Robbing ourselves of true happiness with this one life we have been given is an argument against staying in a marriage where happiness is compromised.
On the other side, too many couples throw in the towel too soon and don't fight hard enough for the family they've formed, so there are two sides to the matrimony coin.
