Jon Anderson And Jean-Luc Ponty Announce Details Of Collaborative Project
Back in March, we learned that former Yes singer Jon Anderson had begun working on a new project with noted jazz fusion violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. Now, the duo have unveiled more details of the Anderson Ponty Band, who are looking to release an album in early 2015 with a world tour to follow shortly thereafter.
“A breakthrough feeling came as I sang with Jean-Luc's music," Anderson said in a press release. "To be in a band again is very exciting on many levels, we will play and sing our way around the world and have fun, for music is pleasure, music is all that is, music is God”
The group is rounded out by Jamie Dunlap (guitars), Wally Minko (keyboards), Baron Browne (bass) and Rayford Griffin (drums and percussion), all of whom bring a wealth of experience and diversity to the project. Together, they plan to write new music and put fresh arrangements to the classic material Anderson and Ponty have created throughout their careers.
In September, the Anderson Ponty Band will launch a three-week residency at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen, CO, culminating in their debut performance on Sept. 20. The entire process will be documented for a future video release.
They have launched a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising $95,000 between now and Aug. 24. As is the case with crowd-sourced projects, the musicians are offering incentives to contributors, ranging from digital downloads ($10) to being thanked in the DVD credits ($125) to VIP privileges for the Aspen show. The video they created for the Kickstarter is embedded above.
