The ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Trailer Is Now Officially Online in HD!
UPDATE: After the trailer leaked online, director Zack Snyder released an official HD version on Twitter. He also noted that Monday's planned IMAX event is still happening and that fans who attend will see a “special IMAX BvS teaser” with new footage and some “swag” to take home from the event. The original story on the trailer leak is below.
Warner Bros. has planned one of the most ambitious trailer launches in history for their upcoming Man of Steel sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. On Monday, April 20, fans can attend a special event at IMAX theaters around the country where the new Batman v Superman trailer will debut after a special introduction from director Zack Snyder. They spent this week teasing that big unveiling with previews of the preview on Snyder’s Twitter feed. This was a carefully orchestrated media event.
At least that was the plan. But late last night, someone (specifically someone who speaks Portuguese, since that’s the language in the onscreen subtitles and title cards) uploaded the full Batman v Superman trailer to the internet. The internet, in turn, promptly went crazy.
Warners has been pulling down the trailers as quickly as they can, but some copies still remain online. We’re not going to post it but we did watch it. (How could we not?) Here’s what it includes: After the opening logos, a voice (it sounds like Charlie Rose) says “Is it really surprising that the most powerful man in the world should be a figure of controversy?” More voices talk about Superman and his actions in Man of Steel, as the camera pans on on a Superman statue, which is spray-painted with the words “False God.” After the voices of Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Alfred (Jeremy Irons), and a U.S. Senator (Holly Hunter), and shots of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne and the Batman costume, there’s a staredown in the rain between Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman, who asks “Tell me: do you bleed?” to the Man of Steel and then answers his own question: “You will.”
Warners has yet to comment on the leak yet, but this would seemingly put their April 20 event in jeopardy. Some are already speculating they’ll show alternate or additional footage instead of this trailer, which would be a smart move at this point.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.
