The Pacific Northwest is reportedly home to a number of cryptids or strange, non-human animals that roam the landscape. Not every one, however, has a beer named after it.

I've done a great deal of exploring in the Pacific Northwest and have yet to cross paths with what people refer to as cryptids. These are not animals, but instead are thought of as monsters that have achieved legendary status through books and alleged sightings by the public.

From Bigfoot to Mothman, and Skin Walkers to the Wendigo, these beasts have been remained relevant thanks to human beings and their desire to entertain and frighten people.

If you ask most people in Washington State about the Batsquatch, you'll probably get a grin and a brief mention about an ugly, winged creature that an Oregon brewery modeled one of its India Pale Ales (IPAs) after. Sightings of the beast are said to have started up around the time of the Mt. Saint Helens eruption of 1980.

Rogue Ales introduced the Batsquatch brew in 2018. It's described as a 'hazy, dark-yellow' concoction with hints of guava, blood orange, apricot, and citrus, according to Beer Advocate. The fabled monster has been described at half bat, half sasquatch.

Reports of the Batsquatch have come in from throughout eastern Washington and clear over to the Idaho border. It's thought by some that these creatures possess the power to control the path of oncoming motor vehicles, according to one monitoring website.
