BURLEY, Idaho (KLIX) – An elementary school in Burley has a new principal.

Charles “Chuck” Day was recently appointed by the Cassia County School Board as the new principal of John V Evans Elementary School.

Day, who has been teaching for 11 years, earned degrees from Central Washington University and Capella University in Minnesota. Most recently he worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Oregon Trail Elementary School in Twin Falls.

Members of the school board said they are excited to receive Day and looks forward to his accomplishments in the Cassia district.

With his “experience in the classroom and his ongoing military service, the board believes Mr. Day will be able to develop positive relationships with both students and teachers to create a positive learning environment,” Board Member Darin Moon said in a prepared statement.

Day, who has served in both the U.S. Air Force and Army National Guard, according to information posted on the district’s Facebook page, says that whether he’s leading a military detachment or teaching grade-school students, it’s about building relationships, respect and rapport.

Mr. Day hopes to bring the 'Leader in Me' program to Cassia. This program gives students a voice and role in their schools. He believes his recent classroom experience gives him some fresh ideas as he 'comes from the trenches.' He wants to use his positive energy to excite students and teachers.
