There are few things in life more unsettling than reports of stories involving young children who haven't quite transitioned into the afterlife and are believed to have been seen in public places. There's a lake in Idaho where people have claimed to have seen a small, dark-haired girl in a canoe moving swiftly across the waters only to vanish a short time later.
As an avid kayaker, fewer things in life bring me greater joy than being out of the water on a warm afternoon. Give me a paddle, my speaker box and iPod, a cold beer, and sunshine on my shoulders any day of the week. The experience is a type of natural connection that I haven't gotten in other settings and situations.

I recently read about a story of a northern Idaho lake that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and that seldom happens. I don't scare easily, but these reports are like something out of a Scooby-Doo episode. I can see the gang pulling up to Spirit Lake in the Mystery Machine already.
I had never heard this in all my years living in Idaho, but apparently, another name for Spirit Lake in Kootenai County is " Lake Kaniskee," which means the same thing. Native Americans in the region coined it in the 1700s, according to hauntedplaces.org.
