Former Idaho Quarterback Battling For Spot On NFL Team
The preseason has ended for the National Football League (NFL), and it's time for coaches to cut rosters down to 53 players.
On Tuesday (August 26), the deadline for each NFL team to submit its final 53-man roster will take effect. This means all the late draft and undrafted free agents who played these last four weeks of preseason will find out if they've made teams or been cut.
Dreams will be fulfilled and crushed this week in the NFL as coaches for all 32 teams must decide on final roster positions.

As far as Idaho hopefuls are concerned, two have already locked in guaranteed spots, while another, a backup tight end and special teams player for the Washington Commanders, will learn his fate this week.
North Idaho native, Colston Yankoff, found a gap in the Baltimore Ravens' defence over the weekend and turned in one of the game's biggest plays. Yankoff tallied a 52-yard reception eight minutes before halftime and pinballed all the way down to the Ravens' 24-yard line before being tackled.

Yankoff, who is 6'4" and weighs 210 pounds, surprised a lot of people when he made the roster in 2024. He played his college ball at UCLA, where he split time playing quarterback, running back, and wide receiver, according to his stats with SRCFB.
Two other Idaho superstar athletes, Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) and Colston Lovelace (from Gooding) have both earned starting positions in the NFL. Jeanty was the first running back taken in April's draft (Raiders), and Lovelace was the Chicago Bears' first selection; both went in the top 10.
We wish Colston Yankoff the best of luck with making the Commanders' roster. Let's hold on tightly to hope.
