MURPHY, Idaho (KLIX)-Idaho wildlife officials say a cow and calf elk were shot by poachers in Owyhee County and have asked the public for help in finding a suspect.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game said the two animals had been shot sometime around November 22, in hunting unit 40 not far from the Mud Flat Road close to Pole Creek. The cow had a radio collar on it as part of a monitoring study being done by the department. None of the meat from either animal had been taken.

Fish and Game law enforcement was able to collect evidence, but have asked for any information from any possible eyewitnesses to come forward. People can call Citizens Against Poaching at 800-632-5999 any time of day and can remain anonymous. People can also call the Fish and Game Nampa office at 208-465-8465 weekdays and Idaho State Police at 208-846-7550 on weekends.
