With Idaho currently in the grips of an unforgiving heatwave, many people are flocking to local lakes and rivers in attempts to stay cool. June and July are also incredibly dangerous months as winter snow run-off continues to contribute to strong currents and poses very real dangers for swimmers.

The first six weeks of summer are the deadliest as far as unintentional drownings (including water transport) in the United States annually, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. July typically is the peak month for these types of fatal accidents. In rare cases, the remains of drowning victims are never discovered, which are haunting reminders of how dangerous rivers are this time of year.

Hopefully, the young man's remains will be discovered one day and the family will get the opportunity to bring him home where he belongs.

Massacre Rocks State Park is located in southeastern Idaho, approximately 80 miles east of Twin Falls. The area got its name from bloody battles that took place in the nineteenth century between settlers and Native Americans, and many consider what is now the present-day state park to be cursed.

The Legend of Idaho Water Babies is also associated with the park, according to onlyinyourstate.com. It's believed that many children in the 1800s were swept away in the currents when settlers attempted to cross the Snake River looking for food options, according to the travel website.

One of the most tragic incidents in recent years to happen at the park took place in late June of 2008 when an area teenager jumped from the surrounding cliffs into the river and was never seen again, according to findagrave.com. Hopefully, the young man's remains will be discovered one day and the family will get the opportunity to bring him home where he belongs.
