BUHL, Idaho (KLIX) Authorities used drones to catch a suspect who fled on foot into a corn field near Buhl Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office, a deputy responded to a call at around 2:20 p.m. of a stolen pickup on Highway 30. The deputy caught up with the suspects, Melissa D. Bendele, 31, of Buhl was driving the reported stolen vehicle, and Robert J. Ferreira, 27, also of Buhl, riding an ATV ahead of the pickup. The man got off the ATV and jumped into the pickup and sped off. After a short pursuit the pickup stopped at 1450 East and 3800 North. Ferreira got out of the pickup and ran into a nearby corn field. Bendele was detained.

Authorities surrounded the corn field and decided to use the county drone to locate the suspect. While waiting for the drone to arrive the farmer of the corn field used his own drone to help locate Ferreira. A Twin Falls Police Officer and K-9 also helped find the suspect. Ferrira was eventually found just after 4:30 and arrested. He was taken to the hospital because of a leg injury he got while running into the corn field.

Bendele is charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding. Ferreira is facing multiple outstanding warrants from Jerome and Twin Falls County, including a parole violation. There are other charges pending. The pickup was reported stolen out of Twin Falls City in June of this year.
