Recording artist and actor Dwight Yoakam will be stopping in southeastern Idaho in a few days for one rocking, hot August evening. Tickets are on sale now for the upcoming performance in Pocatello.

When I think of Dwight Yoakam, I first think of one of my favorite country songs of all time. "Guitars, Cadillacs," made me a Yoakam fan years ago, but in recent years I've grown to enjoy his work in film perhaps more than music. He has played characters in three of my favorite movies.

Yoakam's role as "Pastor Phil" in Four Christmases was hilarious. He didn't disappoint as an abusive, struggling musician and alcoholic in the 1996 film Sling Blade either. Yoakam also briefly stole the show in the opening minutes of Wedding Crashers as a divorcing client of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.  He's every bit as likable on the big screen as he is up on stage with a guitar.

Yoakam will play Pocatello's Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheatre on Friday, August 12. Doors will open at 4:30 P.M., according to the event's Facebook page, and the event is scheduled to go for several hours. The show is part of a country concert series, so there will probably be other live acts leading up to Yoakam's set.

Pocatello is less than a two-hour drive east for Magic Valley fans. This concert may very well sell out, so securing tickets sooner than later is advised.

Dust that cowboy/cowgirl hat off and give those jeans a good washing, because Dwight Yoakam is coming to southern Idaho.
