Watch Foo Fighters, Anthrax, Megadeth Alumni Cover Pantera
Foo Fighters, Anthrax and Megadeth alumni were among the musicians who paid tribute to late Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott with a cover of his band’s song “Walk.”
The jam took place last night at the annual Dimebash memorial event, and featured Dave Grohl, Scott Ian and Chris Broderick on guitar, Charlie Benante on drums, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor on vocals and Pantera’s Rex Brown on bass.
You can watch the performance below.
“Crazy thing about this event is, you never think the last one can be topped,” said Dimebag’s former girlfriend Rita Haney ahead of the show. "But when this much creativity comes together in one room, dude, watch it go! It will light you up! The vibe is always so incredible. It’s like that vibe you get on Christmas Day, before you unwrap your presents, and the excitement of not knowing what you’re going to get. But I guarantee, it’s not those shitty socks you get from your grandma every year. You’re gonna dig it and leave with a smile! That’s the magic ‘something Dime’ can create.”
This year’s Dimebash, which took place at the Observatory venue in Santa Ana, Calif., carried additional emotional weight as it was the first to take place since the death of Dime’s brother and bandmate Vinnie Paul. He died last June at age 54 from a heart condition.
Paul had recorded a drum track for his last band Hellyeah’s sixth album in the weeks before his death. The band later confirmed the LP would be released probably sometime in 2019.
“It's gonna be a little bit outside the box," guitarist Tom Maxwell said. "There's gonna be some stuff that people haven't heard from us but will understand that we did it, because we're all over the board, as you know; we don't pigeonhole ourselves as just being full-blown heavy all the time.”
