Fruitland Man Who Shot at Three People to Spend 9 Years in Prison

BOISE, Idaho (KLIX)-A Fruitland man will be behind federal prison bars for nine years for shooting at three people, one of them a minor. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael Gonzalez Jr., 38-year-old Jacob Salinas was recently sentenced by U.S. District Judge David Nye for unlawful possession of a firearm, a charge he pleaded guilty to in October 2021. The charge stems from a November 2020 incident where Salinas pointed a loaded gun at three individuals in a car and fired as they got out and ran away. No one was injured. Salinas ran away to a rural area in Payette County where he buried the handgun in a canal, which was later dug up by law enforcement. Salinas has a prior conviction for distribution of methamphetamine and wasn't allowed to possess a firearm. According to the U.S. Attorney, Salinas is also a former gang member with a violent past. Salinas was ordered to serve three years of supervised release once his prison term is up.
