Guests and employees of a historic hotel located within the grounds of one of California's most popular national parks have claimed paranormal activity for decades. One of the reported figures wandering the grounds is dressed in 1920s-era pilot gear and might be the lost soul of a victim of a century-old plane crash that happened in the area.

The Wawona Hotel is a stunning Victorian-style property located in Yosemite National Park, and is approximately 20 miles north of Oakhurst, California. It's a very familiar area to me as I landed my first news reporting job in Oakhurst in 1996. I used to have brunch on occasion at the Wawona, which was built in 1867, according to the official website.

It's possible that the spirit of the deceased pilot has been wandering the property seeking answers to his demise for over a century.

The last time I visited the Wawona was in 2013. My wife and I strolled the grounds which consists of the 104-room hotel, a small swimming pool, a groundskeeper lodge, a gift shop, and a nine-hole golf course built in 1918. A couple of years after the course was completed, a small plane crashed in the woods nearby gravely injuring the pilot who received medical treatment on the grounds before dying, according to berkeleyheritage.com.

Employees and guests alike have reported seeing a figure who appears lost wearing older-era pilot's gear that includes goggles, a cap, and a white scarf. It's possible that the spirit of the deceased pilot has been wandering the property seeking answers to his demise for over a century.
