
Witnesses Describe Lantern-Toting Specter Along Idaho Shoreline
A small section of shoreline along U.S. Highway 93 in southeastern Idaho has been the site of numerous unexplained occurrences for more than 140 years.
Dating back to 1870, visitors to a mountainous region north of Clayton, Idaho, have been alleged to have seen a male figure carrying a lantern, and wandering the banks of the Salmon River, approximately 180 miles northeast of Twin Falls.
Some locals believe they have an idea of who this mysterious figure might be.
Strange Sightings Of Lantern-Wielding Figure Reported Along Idaho River

The story goes that more than 140 years ago, a Bulgarian monk lived along the Challis-Yankee Fork region of the Salmon River, according to boiseghost.org. This religious man was popular among the locals and considered trustworthy, according to idahohauntedhouses.com.

The monk reportedly drowned one afternoon while interacting with some local children. Witness accounts from the region describe a male figure in a black robe, carrying a lantern along the water's edge. To date, the source of these sightings remains a mystery.
The Salmon River cuts right through the mountains and under U.S. Highway 93 in southeastern Idaho, so motorists may have seen this ghost wandering along the roadway. The sightings appear to happen primarily in the evening.
