Idaho Among U.S. Leaders In Underground Bunkers, Fallout Shelters
The threat of a nuclear attack by countries such as Russia or the spreading of an apocalyptic virus has propelled many in the Western United States to take serious precautions. Some in Idaho have spent a fortune on disaster preparedness and the Gem State has been identified as one of the more shelter-heavy in the U.S.
To say the state is armed is a massive understatement.
Having lived in southern Idaho for a number of years, I've personally driven past a few backyard bunkers that are easily visible from the roadway. When some people think of underground shelters they associate paranoia and extremism with them. I've always thought they are a great idea and applaud people for taking such measures; if I could afford to construct one I'd own one too.
If there's one thing Idaho can do well it's defend itself against threats. I've seen some very impressive weapons stockpiles from people I've made friends with in Idaho over the years. To say the state is armed is a massive understatement.
According to Newsweek, Idaho falls in the top five states that have the most privately-owned shelters and bunkers. Just a couple of years ago, one Gem State underground bunker hit the market for a cool $2 million.
California, Washington State, and Kansas City also have a hefty number of fallout shelters, according to Newsweek. I say the smart ones prepare themselves to survive in case the country goes to hell in a handbasket. God bless America!
