Idaho Is Serving More Impoverished Students

I had no idea that poverty rates were getting to be so high...scary thought.

The downtown Twin Falls Super 7 Motel is a temporary stopping place of sorts, with deposit-free rooms offering tenants a simple living space until they can find more permanent housing. In recent months, the demand for rooms has increased — a reflection of a weak economy that’s left more Idahoans out of work and scratching by with whatever jobs they can find.

Idaho schools have really been essential in helping the students and children out through school programs such as after school activities, lunch programs, and transportation. This is economically helpful to the parents as well since it can take some of the burden off of their personal finances. Not only is this helping families at this moment, it is also helping these students gain better future for themselves.

“Their ticket out of poverty is education,” said Superintendent Wiley Dobbs.

Most people don't realize the amount of need out there today. Fact is, more and more people are having to live in tighter spaces to afford living expenses at all. The amount of homeless people in Idaho alone has risen dramatically over the past 5 years.

In the 2004-05 school year, 1,676 Idaho students were identified as homeless. By 2009-10, that number had increased to 4,342 students, according to the State Department of Education.

Maybe it's time to notice the hard time and help those who are less fortunate. Good to know that Idaho is attempting to help out those who are struggling...
