Upon completion of proper training, police officers are sworn in and accept the oath to protect and serve prior to working a first shift where they are given full authority to right civilian wrongs, and this includes those behind the wheel.

Police officers are supposed to obey all traffic laws just like civilian motorists, but are granted certain privileges in emergency situations. For those of us who aren't officers of law, it can be frustrating to witness cops seemingly breaking laws with no legitimate reason behind it.

This exact topic was recently brought up on social media, and some of the responses from Idaho residents were enough to raise eyebrows.

According to Ticket Void, police officers must obey the same traffic laws as civilian motorists, but most drivers are completely aloof when it comes to noticing if these laws are indeed being broken by men and women sporting badges.

A police-related question was recently raised on the Reddit / Idaho website by an individual using the avatar name of 'fintexaincthat asked, 'Have you observed law enforcement officers violating traffic laws during non-emergency situations?'

Nearly 200 people have given responses to the question through the voting feature to date. The post was shared on December 21, 2025.

Here are a few comments that were shared:

'Has anyone NOT?'

'I have dashcam footage of a meridian officer running a red (it was like third in line after the light went red so it wasn't even close).I have footage of multiple cops speeding at least 10+ over in 35-45 MPH zones. I have seen about a bazillion illegally parked emergency vehicles. Twice the cops have violated a no trespassing sign on the canal near me to get to a property that is accessible via a driveway on the other side.'

'They're not supposed to commit moving violations, though I'm sure that happens sometimes (though there are some rare-ish occasions where policy allows them speed without activating their emergency lights - like when positioning themselves behind a driver that they intend to pull over in a safer area.)'

What are your thoughts on this Reddit story? Is there something you see state police doing regularly that you believe is breaking the law?
