MSN reported today that Salmon, Idaho Navy Veteran Madelynn Taylor was denied a burial site because of her out-of-state marriage to Jean Mixner, who died in 2012.

Taylor told a Boise TV station that the state military cemetery denied burial since they did not have an Idaho marriage license, required under its rules.  They were unable to get a marriage license due to Idaho's state constitutional ban on same sex marriage.

The denial came after a retired U.S. Army colonel offered up his own burial plot in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.

Taylor, and several other lesbian couples, are challenging Idaho's state constitutional ban on same sex marriage.  Taylor says she expected the state's push-back, but nonetheless called it an act of discrimination.

The Idaho Division of Veterans Services said the cemetery's policy remains unchanged.
