Records of political assassinations go back further than some people can imagine. One Idaho lawyer turned politician was killed by a good friend in a hail of bullets more than 150 years ago and the incident is regarded as the state's first and only recorded murder of its kind.

The one date that I came across in my research occurred more than 3,800 years ago and involved a Bronze Age (3300 B.C. to 1200 B.C.) prince whose body was discovered in 1877 in Germany, according to qz.com.
