Why Your Gift to St. Jude Matters

Keep scrolling to see how you can qualify for a 65-inch QLED TV

Every year during our St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital radiothon, we ask you to become a monthly donor. And every year, the same questions come up.

Why St. Jude?
Why a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee?
Does my $19 a month really matter?

The answer is yes. More than you know.

St. Jude is More Than a Hospital

St. Jude treats some of the sickest kids on the planet, no matter their race, ethnicity, beliefs, or ability to pay. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food.

That means everything from meals to lodging is covered so parents can focus 100% on helping their child get well, instead of wondering how they’ll afford the next round of treatment.

The Impact in Numbers

When St. Jude opened in the early 1960s, the overall childhood cancer survival rate was about 20%. Today, it’s over 80%.

For acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)—the most common childhood cancer—survival rates have gone from 4% to 94%.

Those aren’t just numbers. They’re birthdays, graduations, and futures that wouldn’t exist without this kind of research and care.

Why a Hospital in Memphis Helps Kids Here in Idaho

St. Jude is physically in Memphis, Tennessee. But it’s also a research facility. The treatments and protocols developed there are shared freely with hospitals across the country and around the world.

That means kids being treated at hospitals like St. Luke’s and others here in Idaho directly benefit from St. Jude’s research, even if they never travel to Memphis. Our doctors can access St. Jude protocols and consult with their specialists.

Why I Give $19 a Month

I think of my gift to St. Jude like an insurance policy for children and families everywhere.

God forbid your child, your grandchild, your niece or nephew ever needs St. Jude. But if they do, you’ll know you helped keep those doors open and that lifeline ready.

And even if your family never needs St. Jude, you've given the gift of hope to another family.
