How To Help The Idaho Animals Affected By The Wildfires
This past wildfire season took a heavy toll on the Treasure Valley. Many were forced to surrender the land they had and evacuate for their safety.
On the other side, Idaho firefighters spent countless hours working to extinguish the flames threatening our land.
The Ripple Effect Of The Wildfires
For the people living near the areas affected by the wildfires, there was a legitimate lingering fear that they could lose everything. Because of that, it's understandable that many of us didn't consider the other effects the wildfires would have on the animals of Idaho.
According to a report from USA Today, the wildfires have scorched around half a million acres in the Gem State. Because of that, it should come as no surprise that the wildlife of Idaho would be affected.
Now, Idaho Fish & Game is calling on the public to help assist the animals of Idaho.
Help Is On The Way For Southwest Idaho
Idaho Fish & Game recently shared how people can step up and help the animals affected by the fires in a post to social media:
The 2024 wildfire season has seen hundreds of thousands of acres burn in Southwest Idaho, including the Paddock and Valley fires, which burned a combined 200,000 acres of critical winter range that sustains thousands of big game animals. There will be plenty of volunteer opportunities for wildfire restoration efforts in Southwest Idaho in the coming months.
To begin the process, Idaho Fish & Game is looking for volunteers to help "collect sagebrush seed this fall, winter seed broadcasting, and spring hand plantings of native seedlings."
You'll need to be available on Saturdays in November and December and on weekdays from mid-November to mid-December starting in the Boise Foothills.
