Warmer temperatures in the Treasure Valley usually mean patio bars, floating the river (it'll be here before we know it), and evening outdoor concerts. However, we're also in the middle of another important season... and for most of us, it's not much fun.

Road Work Season In The Treasure Valley

As the Treasure Valley continues to grow in population, so does the need to improve our roads so they can handle the influx of traffic. For the most part, detours in the Treasure Valley are fairly straightforward, and while an inconvenience, there's almost always a comparable alternate route thanks to our road workers and planners.

We should also thank those same road workers for planning the next big project the way they did; otherwise, many of us would be in for some pretty long (and annoying) commutes.

According to the Idaho Transportation Department, a major closure is planned for this Wednesday on I-84.

"The Idaho Transportation Department advises motorists to plan ahead for a full westbound Interstate 84 closure on Wednesday between the Garrity and Ten Mile interchanges," the Idaho Transportation Department said in a press release. "Crews will mobilize a large crane and other materials into the center median of I-84 to begin work on the piers for the new fly-over ramps and work on overhead sign structures."

"This work will begin the next stage of construction at the future I-84/State Highway 16 System Interchange."

It sounds like a massive undertaking, so thankfully, it won't be taking place during peak traffic times.

ITD says that the work between Ten Mile (Exit 42) and Garrity (Exit 38) will take place this Wednesday (5/7) between 10 PM and 5 AM (Thurs, 5/8). The detour takes you from Ten Mile to Franklin before you return to Garrity to get to westbound I-84. You can view their detour map HERE.

ITD says there will be continuing nighttime lane restrictions on eastbound and westbound I-84 "for the next several weeks." There will be at least two lanes open, and ITD says the speed limit in those zones will be 55 MPH.
