Check Your Coins, Idaho! This Penny Is Worth $7,000!

If there's one thing we're always on the lookout for, it's ways to save money or a great deal. However, we recently came across a TikTok that has us on the lookout for something else: pennies.

This TikTok Has Everyone Checking Their Change

Like a lot of people, we do a lot of doom scrolling, especially when it's "time for bed." We recently came across an account on TikTok known as "CoinHub" and now we're obsessed with inspecting every single coin in our house, cars, and even our kids' piggy bank.

One of the most popular videos on this TikTok page is about a penny that they say is worth $7,000.

To find this penny, the video says you need to first search the coins you have for a penny from the year 1983. If you have a penny from 1983, make sure it doesn't have a mint mark. Also, you'll need to look at the back of the penny on the bottom for the "One Cent" wording. The video explains that if you have a penny with "doubling" or "3D-like font" for the word "One Cent," you could have $7,000 on your hands.

But, is it really worth $7,000?

According to Professional Coin Grading Service, one of those 1983 pennies with the features we talked about sold at an auction in 2017 for a whopping $7,050.

Now, this was at an auction, so if you find a penny with those unique 1983 features, there's no guarantee you'll pocket over $7,000, but even if it's worth a few grand... It's probably still worth checking your kids' piggy bank.
