Wicked Weekend Weather Could Slam Boise, Twin Falls, and Burley With Dangerous Wind

If you have a basketball hoop still up, patio furniture outside, or a trampoline that is not tied down, now is the time to handle it.

A High Wind Watch remains in effect for parts of southern and southwest Idaho from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening, including areas around Boise, Twin Falls, and Burley. The National Weather Service says parts of the region could see northwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, which could make travel difficult and lead to downed trees, power lines, and possible outages.

Boise Is Going to Get Pushed Around Too

I've live in both Treasure and Magic Valley, and Twin Falls usually gets most of the attention when a windy weekend is coming. That said, Boise will not be getting a free pass on this one.

The current Boise forecast shows a high near 56 on Saturday, with rain possible earlier in the day before winds ramp up. Forecasters say gusts in Boise could reach 39 mph Saturday, with Saturday night gusts up to 40 mph.

Magic Valley Will Likely Take a Harder Hit

It looks like it'll probably rain in Twin Falls Saturday before noon, with a high near 57, and gusts that could reach 50 mph.

In the Burley and Mini Cassia area, conditions might be equally rough. The latest National Weather Service forecast for Burley shows a high near 55 on Saturday, with patchy blowing dust possible and winds strong enough to produce gusts up to 50 mph during the day. Winds are expected to stay strong into Saturday night, when gusts could still reach 55 mph.

Bring This Stuff Inside Before Saturday Afternoon

This could be one of those weekends where the neighborhood trampoline becomes a community issue.

Before Saturday afternoon, it would be smart to secure or bring in the outdoor stuff. Things like your basketball hoops, patio furniture, grills, trash cans, and anything loose and lightweight in the yard should be tied down or brought inside.

And if you can park your car in a garage or carport, it's not a bad idea.

The Good News Is the Ugly Weather Will Not Last Long

After Saturday, it looks like things will settle down a bit.

Sunday stays cooler, with highs near 50 in Boise, 47 in Twin Falls, and 45 in Burley. Then temperatures rebound into the 60s Monday and the 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of southern Idaho.

Hurricane-Like Winds Devastate Southern Idaho

On December 17, 2025, the National Weather Service reported sustained winds of 30 mph and gusts approaching 70 mph in Southern Idaho. The winds tore trees from the ground, snapped power poles in half, and toppled tractor-trailers. Here's just a small glimpse of the devastation that ripped through Idaho.
