TFPD: Suspect and Multiple Victims Dead in Fatal Twin Falls Shooting

Multiple people are dead and several others are injured following a chaotic shooting Saturday afternoon near the new In-N-Out Burger and the Twin Falls Visitor Center.

Twin Falls Police Confirm Multiple Victims and Suspected Shooter Are Dead

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed that multiple victims were killed and others were injured during the active-shooter incident. Hicks also said the suspected shooter is dead but did not explain how the person died.

Hicks did not provide the exact number of people killed or injured. He said authorities were working with the Twin Falls County Coroner’s Office and notifying the victims’ next of kin before releasing additional information.

However, the New York Post reports that three people were killed and five others were injured. The Associated Press reports that multiple people were killed and cites preliminary information indicating five people were injured.

It remains unclear whether the suspected shooter is included in the death toll reported by other media.

Investigators Working to Identify Twin Falls Shooter and Determine Motive

Hicks said investigators were still working to confirm the identity of the suspected shooter and determine a possible motive.

Police have not publicly identified the victims or the suspected shooter.

Authorities have also not released a complete timeline explaining where the shooting began, how it progressed or how the suspected shooter died.

Shooting Reported Near Twin Falls In-N-Out and Visitor Center

The incident unfolded Saturday afternoon on August 1, 2026, in the busy commercial area surrounding the new In-N-Out Burger and the Twin Falls Visitor Center. Social media across the Magic Valley erupted with messages, photographs and videos that appeared to show an armed person near In-N-Out and the visitor center.

Police have not yet verified any photograph, video or witness account circulating online. Several videos that were initially posted have since been taken down.

Magic Valley Mall, Costco and Nearby Businesses Report Lockdowns

Witnesses reported lockdowns and evacuations at businesses within several blocks of the shooting scene.

Those reports included the Magic Valley Mall, Costco area hotels and several other businesses in the surrounding shopping area.

Law enforcement officers closed roads and searched locations near the shooting scene while determining whether there was any continuing threat to the public.

Local, State and Federal Resources Assist Twin Falls Police

Hicks praised the response of the Twin Falls Police Department, neighboring law enforcement agencies and emergency first responders.

He said Twin Falls authorities had the full support of local and state resources and had also been in contact with multiple federal agencies.

Multiple agencies responded to the area as officers secured the scene, located witnesses and began gathering evidence from what Hicks described as 'hundreds' of witnesses who were in one of the busiest areas in Southern Idaho.

Twin Falls Police Expect to Release Additional Shooting Updates

Hicks said authorities would remain in close contact with the community and provide additional updates over the coming hours and days.

The casualty numbers and other details remain preliminary and could change as investigators complete their work and families are notified.
