Boise State Football Ranked Among ‘Biggest Disappointments’ of 2025
How does the old saying go?
'Womp, Womp, Womp'... ?
Boise State's 2025 football season was a rollercoaster and while it certainly ended better than many could have expected half-way through, it could have been a lot better.
Expectations for this particular Boise State squad were high. Despite losing the all-star that was Ashton Jeanty from the prior season, it was Boise State that landed atop most lists to secure the 'non-power' position in the College Football Playoff.
Dreams of that appearance fell short quickly, after Boise State dropped a season opening win at South Florida and a road game at fellow College Football Playoff contender, Notre Dame.
The season dragged on for some fans, as the Broncos eventually lost three more games, finishing up as a 5-loss squad with no real way into the playoff outside of any mathematical Hail Mary.

Even without Ashton Jeanty, BSU looked like the Group of 5's standard-bearer heading into 2025, but known stars such as pass rusher Jayden Virgin-Morgan and quarterback Maddux Madsen didn't take a step forward (Madsen was average, then hurt), the new RBs fumbled way too much, and against three SP+ top-40 opponents they lost by a combined 100-24. The Broncos rallied to win a competitive Mountain West, but falling from the CFP to outside the SP+ top 60 wasn't the vision for 2025.
