Once Deadly Disease on the Rise and Spreading in Idaho
As the weather fluctuates and begins to get colder, many diseases, illnesses, and colds start to make the rounds. During the winter, it seems more people get sick each year. Most expect to get a cold, perhaps the flu, or maybe some type of virus, but there are other diseases that are going around as well. Some are life-threatening, some make you feel bad but pass, and others you may get from your own actions. One once deadly disease is on the rise in Idaho and is spreading more than it has in previous years, but how can you make sure you don't get it?
HIV and AIDS on the Rise in Idaho
AIDS is a disease that has taken many lives through the years and spread like wildfire through the 80s and 90s. Medicine has advanced, and this disease that once took many lives is more contained now than it used to be. It is still alarming and concerning when you find out you have tested positive and have this disease that, if not treated, could cause you harm. Most assumed that AIDS and HIV had faded, as they don't get nearly the publicity they used to. According to the South Central Public Health District, the number of cases in Idaho has been on the rise this year. It isn't only a small increase, but a massive jump in cases seen in 2025. Clearly, someone or some people are either not aware they have it and are having unprotected sex, or perhaps don't care that they are spreading it to others.
HIV and AIDS in Idaho
According to the SCPHD, there were 5 cases of HIV in 2024 in Idaho, and in 2025, with a couple of weeks to go, there are currently 15 cases. In 2024, there was only one case of AIDS, but in 2025, so far, there are 9 confirmed cases. It is alarming to see the number of HIV cases triple and to see a big jump in AIDS. If you think you may have HIV or AIDS, or if you have slept recently with a new partner or have been sleeping with multiple people, it is always a good idea to get tested to be sure. You can go to your nearest medical facility or to your doctor and get tested.

It shouldn't need to be said, since we all remember health class growing up, but when in doubt, use condoms to help prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS. It is not a foolproof plan, but it is better than having no protection. For more on the number of cases rising in Idaho, make sure to click the link above.
